Birleşmiş Milletler Gıda ve Tarım Örgütü'nün 2030 Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma hedeflerinde okyanusların, denizlerin ve denizel kaynakların korunması ve sürdürülebilir kullanımının sağlanması hedefine ulaşmak için; Akdeniz Balıkçılık Komisyonu, GFCM Karadeniz’de BlackSea4Fish adlı bir proje başlattı. Koordinatörlüğünü Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Deniz Bilimleri Enstitüsü Öğretim Üyesi Prof. Dr. Ali Cemal Gücü’nün yaptığı proje; Karadeniz’de balıkçılık alanında kıyıdaş ülkeler arasında kaynakların ortak kullanımına yönelik bilimsel tavsiyeler üretilmesine olanak sağlayacak iş birlikleri inşa etmeyi hedefliyor. Bu kapsamda, Gürcistan Hükümeti'nin daveti üzerine, Tarım ve Orman Bakanlığı'nın desteğiyle Trabzon Su Ürünleri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü'nün Sürat Araştırma 1 gemisiyle Gürcistan karasuları içinde balıkçılık araştırması gerçekleştirildi. Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, bu çalışmanın gerçekleşebilmesi için; projeye bilimsel destek ve personel desteği sağladı. Deniz çalışmasında; Batum’dan Anaklia’ya tüm Gürcistan karasuları hidro-akustik yöntemle tarandı, balık stokları ile Türkiye ve Gürcistan’ın ortak kullandıkları hamsi stokunun durumu hakkında önemli veriler elde edildi. 17 -28 Aralık 2018 tarihleri arasında devam eden çalışmadan elde edilen veriler ODTÜ Deniz Bilimleri Enstitüsü'nden uzmanlarca analiz edilerek Gürcistan Hükümeti'ne ve Akdeniz Balıkçılık Komisyonu'na sunuldu.
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, GFCM, has launched a project called BlackSea4Fish in the Black Sea to achieve the goal of ensuring the protection and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources as part of the 2030 Sustainable Development targets of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Conducted by Prof. Dr. Ali Cemal Gücü from METU Institute of Marine Sciences, the project is dedicated to building collaboration in the Black Sea region, which will enable the production of scientific recommendations for the common use of resources among the riparian countries in the fisheries industry. In this context, upon the invitation of the Georgian government, a survey was carried out in Georgia’s territorial waters by the research vessel “Sürat” by the Trabzon Fisheries Research Institute with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Middle East Technical University provided scientific and personnel support to this project. In this marine project, all the territorial waters of Georgia from Batumi to Anaklia was surveyed using a hydro-acoustic method and important data about the state of the fish stocks and anchovy stock commonly used by Turkey and Georgia was obtained. Data from the project conducted from 17 to 28 December 2018 were analyzed by experts from the METU Institute of Marine Sciences and presented to the Georgian government and GFCM.
